Ebworth Woods
Sheepscombe School holds nature close to its heart. It is situated in the beautiful Sheepscombe valley (an area of outstanding natural beauty) and it is adjacent to the Ebworth woods (a National Trust property)

The school is fortunate to have access to the National Trust owned and managed estate. Classes visit the site regularly. By using these premises, we can broaden our learning and experiences in nature, not least through the wonderful fruit and vegetable garden that we have established with the National Trust.

Lottie (year 3) wrote a short description of the day spent in the woods

First we walked up to Ebworth. We read some maps and had to follow the maps. Every few minutes we stopped looked where we were on the map. When we got up to Ebworth we had a snack. Then we had to discover  why Ebworth was built there. It was because there were lots of stones there and wood and lots of fields and animals and water. Then we went back to our base and wrote some Kenning poems. After that we had some lunch in the yurt. Then we looked round the wrecked houses and drew a picture of them. Tim came and talked to us and then we walked back to school.

This page will show you scenes and experiences on the visits.

Coppers for Kids:

Sheepscombe Primary children made every penny count when they created a coin trail around the playground.

The 60 youngsters raised £140 to pay school fees for children in Nepal.

For the past two years, each of the three classes at Sheepscombe have sponsored a child through the charity, Education, Protection and Help for Children. Arjun, Nima and Monika are aged seven and their parents cannot afford to send them to school.

Sheepscombe acting headteacher, Anne Milston, said: “The children filled jars and pots with coppers and had a competition to see which class had collected the most by laying out the coins in the playground.

“Class 3 won with their 23-metre long trail which stretched from the gate across the playground and down the footpath.”

Each class has a photograph of their sponsored child and information about them.

“The link with these children in Nepal helps our children appreciate the wider world we live in and how other youngsters live,” said Mrs Milston.

Ernest Cook Grant
Willow Art: We have been awarded the prestigious Ernest Cook Grant.

So far we have undertaken Willow work, included a sheep(!),  with Susie Early from the village and more recently have also just completed a superb mural which was lead by local artist Imogen Harvey-Lewis. Plans for the final project are underway and we will reveal the theme and medium as soon as it is finalised.

Over Farm

The whole school visited Over Farm to learn about food on the theme 'From Farm to Table'.  The event was sponsored by the government 'Let's Get Cooking' project.

A Feast of a Picnic

At the end of the spring term, the whole school took part in a 'Let's Get cooking' activity. Each class was asked to prepare part of a meal.

Parents and community members helped the children with the preparations. The best part was of course, enjoying the feast.
