Sheepscombe School Governing Body

What We Do

The purpose of governance is to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance. The governing body in our school has a legal responsibility which can be summarised by three core statutory functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure money is well spent

Our Vision

Our vision is for a school where children actively engage with the local and global communities and develop the confidence and skills they need to have an impact on the world around them in years to come.

The decades ahead promise to be challenging (e.g. climate change, speed of change, the continuing digital revolution). Our role as a school is to set children on a path where they can understand, question, manage and influence what happens in the future. We want our children to work for the benefit of society, to have a voice and to know how to be heard.

Ethos

Every activity involving the whole school community is strengthened by being caring and thoughtful.

  • We care for each other, for ourselves and for local and global communities.
  • We are mindful, thoughtful and reflective in everything we do.

Our Strategic Priorities Are To:

  • To establish Sheepscombe School’s method in building knowledge and in fostering key skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving and resilience, as well as creativity and innovation, to enable all children to make a positive impact on the local and wider environment
  • To build confidence in pupils in communicating with and for others in ways that support the mental and physical well-being of the whole school community
  • To develop further our partnership with parents, to share learning and experience, to cooperate in the delivery of inclusive education, for the benefit of individual pupils and for the whole school
  • To ensure organizational stability and sustainability through staff development, financial and physical site planning
  • To maintain excellent and functioning relationships with the village community

Governor Meetings

We meet at least every full term as a Full Governing Body (FGB) and have one committee. The Finance and Resources Committee (FRC) is responsible for financial aspects of the school.

Who Are We?

The Full Governing Body is representative of the staff, the local authority, parents and members of the community.  Our diverse backgrounds give us a wide range of experiences and views, enabling us to make informed decisions about the school collectively. We regularly receive training provided by the county and by external organisations, such as the National Governance Association (NGA).

We welcome and value feedback from parents so please do come and speak to us at school events or we can be contacted via the school office. The Chair of Governors can be contacted here:
