Each year the school goes along to the war memorial in the village to observe a two minute silence, place a wreath on the memorial and listen to 'The Last Post'.

As part of this service the children make and share artwork, write poems and prayers to remember all of those who have sadly lost their lives during conflicts and war around the world.

During the week the children raise money for the British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Oh who sleeps in the field of poppies,

Let the sun shine down on them,

As we remember the brave soldiers,

Who risked their lives

For those who nearly died,

Upon the hill we sit and pray,

For those who lie beneath the ground,

The gravestones of row and row,

They stand proud underneath,

The glow of glistening torches,

Their little light dancing in the night

Sandfield Farm is a giant outdoor classroom, which we visited to enhance our theme of ‘Field to Fork’. Our children enjoyed the benefits of practical outdoor learning at the farm. The variety of resources on the farm, meant that our children had hands on experience to build upon lessons learnt at school. It was a great day thanks to Emma as she helped us explore the workings of an organic farm.

In May 2023, Sheepscombe pupils had the opportunity to visit The Matthew in Bristol as part of their theme on Oak, Ash and Thorn. Each class enjoyed a trip around the harbour and learnt lots about wooden sailing ships . They also were able to visit the M Shed and look at Bristol's history, which was very engaging.

In October as usual we take all our children to the Cheltenham Literature Festival to attend workshops with various authors.

Kestrels and Eagles impressed 'The Dragons' with their eloquent pitches, business acumen and inventiveness.

Each year our school nativity takes place, we leave school in the early evening and have a lantern procession with the children, staff and parents. The children re-enact the Christmas story and we make our way to the Inn in the village.  At the Inn Mary and Joseph knock on the door and ask the Inn Keeper "Is there any room at the Inn?". We continue on with our story and gradually make our way through the village singing carols and performing reading and then we arrive at the church where we have our Nativity service. This is a magical event that brings the school and wider school community together with our neighbours in the village.
