Phonics and Reading Scheme

We use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme to teach systematic synthetic phonics. The Little Wandle programme is a validated scheme approved by the DfE for 2021 onwards. More information can be found here

We use the Collins Big Cat reading scheme who are also publishers of the books linked to the Little Wandle scheme. From early phonics development to fluency, Collins Big Cat is a whole-school programme that provides complete support for primary reading. We foster a love of reading with hundreds of levelled readers to support guided, independent and whole class reading.

We work in phase groups for our teaching, grouped according to the needs of the children and their starting point in our school. The children are involved in activities that are active and engaging, often taking home resources to support their learning. We offer children a range of reading for pleasure books as well as those matched to their phonics level, we keep our class libraries up to date and reguarly purchase the latest publications.
